One-time build plus hosting
A bigger bill up front, then you are on your own.
You pay a designer to build the site, then pay separately for hosting, your domain and email. Changes after launch are often billed by the hour, or you make them yourself.
Two ways to pay
Neither is right for everyone. The question is what you get after the site goes live.

A monthly plan
Hosting, upkeep and a set amount of changes are covered each month. Some plans fold the build into the monthly fee; others, like ours, quote the build separately. Read the terms either way.
What we found locally
From prices local web designers publish on their own sites, checked in October 2026. These are starting points, not quotes.
Advertised starting prices for a small business site. Hosting is often extra, at about $15 to $25 a month.
Monthly maintenance on a site you already paid for. What is included varies a lot, from updates only to a set number of edits.
The build is spread into the monthly price. Watch for a minimum term and who owns the design if you leave.
What drives the price
Two sites that look alike can be priced very differently. These are usually why.
Pages
A five-page site with a home, services, about and contact page costs less than one with a page for every service and every town you cover.
Booking and forms
A simple contact form is the starting point. Online booking, quote forms with several steps, or a form that feeds another tool you use all add work.
Online store
Products, payments, shipping and stock take more setup and more upkeep than a brochure site. Your payment processor's fees are separate from any website price.
Content and photos
If you bring your own words and photos, the build is simpler. If the copy needs writing from scratch, or you need new photos, plan for that time.
After launch
A build quote often stops at launch day. These keep going for as long as you have a website.
Hosting
Every site needs hosting. With a one-time build it is usually a separate monthly charge, and someone still has to keep an eye on it.
Domain
Make sure the domain is registered in your name, not the builder's, and that you know when it renews.
An email address at your own domain is often a separate account, billed per person.
Changes
Sites go out of date fast. Ask how changes are made after launch, how long they take, and whether each one is billed by the hour.
Security and updates
Software updates, SSL and backups are not one-and-done. If nobody owns them, problems usually show up at the worst time.
Someone to call
When a form stops sending or the site goes down, who do you call? With a one-time build, the answer is sometimes nobody.
How we price it
A new site is quoted after a short call, then runs on a monthly plan. Every plan covers hosting, uptime, SSL and DNS, business email, form delivery, analytics and a monthly report, with one monthly bill from Swift Studios.
$149/mo
For a healthy site that needs a steady hand.
$249/mo
For a working business site that changes with you.
$499/mo
For owners who want the whole web desk covered.
Add-ons: an extra mailbox is $20/mo, and Google Business Profile support is $99/mo.
Comparing quotes
Put each answer side by side. The cheapest build is not always the cheapest site to own.
Ownership
Ask whether the domain, the content and the design are yours if you leave. Some monthly offers keep the design.
Minimum term
Local terms we found ran from month to month up to twelve months. Know the minimum before you sign.
Changes
Ask how many changes are included, how fast they are done, and what happens when you need more.
What is included
Line up hosting, domain, email, changes and support for each quote, so you compare the full monthly cost, not just the build.

Common questions
Local builds we found start around $900, and others start closer to $3,000, often with hosting on top. Monthly care runs from about $50 to $350 a month. Your price depends on the pages, features and content you need.
Not always. Paying once can cost less up front, but hosting, email, changes and fixes still cost something each month. Add those up over a year or two and compare the totals.

With us, yes. Your domain, code, content, analytics, and accounts remain yours. If we part ways, you take them with you.
Routine care is month to month. Any separate build terms are explained in writing before work starts.
